8 EASY STEPS TO WRITE PERFECT ANSWERS

Jan 24, 2023

Has it ever happened to you that you know everything, and are very well prepared but don't score well on your exam? And did you know that having mastery over your content and scoring well in your exams are two different things? So here we'll talk about those specific things you need to do to write high-scoring answers. So let's get going.

What do you need to do as soon as you enter the examination hall?

  1. READ THE QUESTION THOROUGHLY

Sometimes when we see a familiar question, we get excited and read the first few words and answer it straight away. Read both of the 'Or' questions carefully, but only tackle one.

  1. TIME YOUR QUESTION PAPER

When we get to the last ten-mark answer, we're sometimes speeding through it and losing points since we spent so much time writing the first several short answers so nicely. Wear a watch instead of relying on the wall clock. And if you're out of time, skip the question and continue.

  1. ANSWER THE QUESTIONS IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE

Let's say you do section A, and then if you don't want to do section B, you can go to section C if you want to. But when you start a section, complete it in serial order. This makes it easier for the examiner to check your paper.

  1. ELUCIDATE YOUR ANSWERS WITH EXAMPLES

If the question is to distinguish between, then answer the question in columns. If it's a two-mark question, write about four points and try giving examples. Write roughly five points and always summarise in the final phrase if the question is worth five marks.

  1. DRAW DIAGRAMS WHEREVER NECESSARY

In Science, draw diagrams. Use a sharp pencil, draw neat diagrams and label them. Also, remember to give a proper title to each diagram. In Social Sciences, if you have map work, please put the question number on the top left corner of the map and circle it. The first thing you do when you get a maths paper is write down all the information given in the question in the same order. In Math, even if your answer is correct, you must write the units like centimeters or rupees, which, if left, could be a costly mistake.

  1. ONLY ANSWER WHAT THE QUESTION ASKS FOR

Students generally lose marks when they are giving extra information. If the question asks for only the advantages, don't go on with writing the disadvantages as well, this shows a lack of clarity.

  1. SOLVING READING COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS

If you have reading comprehension, always read the questions before you read the passage. That way, you know what information you're looking for when you read the passage in the writing section. For a letter-writing question, always adhere to the word limit.

  1. ATTEMPT OUT OF SYLLABUS QUESTIONS

Please attempt any questions on your paper that are not part of your syllabus. You should only check for negative markings. In the past, the examiners decided to award points for attempting, irrespective of whether it was right or wrong.

To help you write the best answers, follow the below;

  • Do write as neatly and legibly as possible. Underline the main keyword in your answer or put a box around it.
  • To draw columns, always use a pencil and ruler. And if you cut something out, use one line to strike through. Please don't make a whole spider web on it.
  • Draw a margin on the right-hand side so you can use that for rough work as you're solving.
  • Do leave spaces. Try to leave a line between two answers.
  • Draw a margin on the left-hand side because when you attach your supplementary sheets, something that you write in the corner on the left-hand side of your paper won't be so clearly visible.
  • Do not use short forms in your writing. Try to use as many scientific and technical terms as you can.
  • When revising your paper at the end, ensure that you have written the correct question number next to it.
  • And a quick tip- we've noticed in the topper's papers they draw the line at the end of every answer to indicate completion.
  • Lastly, review your notes and study materials you have before the day of the exam to help you feel more prepared and in control. We hope that the above tips will help you too.
  • Stay positive & remind yourself that you have prepared well and can do your best.
